I would like to make contact with someone researching the following family.
They are on the 1870 Butler Co. MO census (Although they were in Indiana in
1860)

Lewis Rhoads born ca 1823 in KY
Nancy Rhoads born ca 1824 in KY
Rachel " born ca 1839 IN
Emily " born ca 1840 IN
Sarah " born ca 1843 IN
Elizabeth " born ca 1846 IN
Lewis F " born ca 1848 IN
Nancy E " born ca 1850 IN
Mary Ann Bailey born ca 1834 IN
Araminta Bailey born March 1860 IN

In Indiana, Mary Ann (Rhoads) Bailey was living in her parents household
with her husband James Bailey (39) and step-son James Bailey (9) but they
evidently didn't make the move to Missouri.
Araminta Bailey married in Poplar Bluff Missouri to one John Riley Hicks (1879).
They lived there for a while, then in Arkansas and Nebraska before returning
to Indiana where they finished raising their family.

Greetings RHODES (and various spellings thereof)

I am looking for Moses R. RHODES who married Hanna PARK?

Here's what I have:

Family notes state Moses was born in Elbert County, Georgia 25 Feb 1789;
Moses was the son of John W. RHODES (8 Jan 1759 - 4 July 1837) and ?.

Moses named one of his male heirs John W. RHODES (b. 5 Jan 1813 in
Elbert County Georgia)

A Moses on Cedar Creek is listed in Elbert Co. tax list 1814-1815. On
1815 military list is Private Moses RODES, Georgia Militia, War of 1812,
Captain Charles Carter's Company of Drafted Volunteer Infantry, First
(Harris's) Regiment. (I've looked all over the Internet for a list of
these soldiers!)

There IS a Moses R. ROADS in the 1820 census, Pendleton District of
South Carolina; this district borders Elbert County Georgia on Savannah
River. (Maybe he owned land on both sides of the river?)

In the 1830 Census of Elbert County, census district 198, page 130,
Moses widow is listed! The 1827 Land Lottery lists Hannah as widow, son
John W. as orphan of Moses.

Family notes also state that Moses' father was John W. RHODES; who
fought in the American Revolution. (The DAR Patriot Index lists several
John RHODES but none seem to fit the geographic or chronological profile
ie, John b. 6 July 1759 Pvt NEW YORK!)

Family Tree Maker makes reference to Moses R. and John W. on CD # 15 but
I do not have access to that disk.

My great grandfather, William B RHODES (b. 1837 Elbert Ga) was the first
of thirteen children of John W. RHODES and Mary "Polly" Kelly. I have
copies of William's civil war pension applications and questionnaires -
he served in the 7th Tenn. Cav. USA. John W. RHODES has proved a
stumbling block (no documentation other than oral history and family
notes)

Tom
in Illinois

PS I have some more boring data about census records, land grants etc.
if this branch of RHOADS sounds familiar to one of your ancestors.

Looking for William's parents. Father was born in England and was

d: 14 Apr 1843, and Hannah Fouts b: 11 Jul 1771 d: Nov 1855.

William enlisted in Co. B 30th GA Inf 28 Aug 1861 at Stockbridge, Henry
Co. GA, was shot in the right shoulder in the Battle of Franklin, TN,
entered Capt. Hamby's Co in the Patterson Regiment of the 5th Ala Cav in
May 1863 and was honorably discharged in April 1865. I have not been
able to find him on any 1870 census record. (or 1850 either). In 1880 he
was living in Township 6 Range 6 Lawrence Co. AL and in Oakville,
Precinct 9 Lawrence Co. AL in 1900, next to the farm of his son, William
B., his wife Mattie Daniel, and 5 (at this time) children.

I have heard that you are researching some of the RHODES family. My bride is
a Rhodes and we have been trying to find out about her side of the family.
Her father was killed before she was born . Most of what we have is word of
mouth and very little documation. If you have any thing on these kin folks
we would love to have it.

My great- great-great grandfather, Ezekiel Rhoads was born in England in
1745. At age 34, he married and fled to Holland to escape religious
persecution. In 1810 he joined a group of church people and emigrated
to Cherry Valley, PA. My great-great grandfather, Ezekiel I. Rhoads was
born in Cherry Valley in 1812. His father lived to be 103. Ezekiel
bought a farm in Elmira, N.Y. were my great grandfather Thadeaus Rhoads
was born.
Does anyone have any information on this branch of the Rhoads family?
If so please email me at mbarker@koyote.com.

Thank you!

I am researching a Rhodes family located basically in Bedford Co of Pa,
although they may be found in Huntingdon and/or Blair counties also.

Here is where I am at:

A Daniel G. Rhodes b. about 1845 who married Ann Shriver b. about 1847.
One child that I know of, a John S. Rhodes who married Elizabeth Jane
Stonerook (daughter of Nancy Diehl and Ephriam Stonerook.) The latter
couple resided in Roaring Spring, Pa to the best of my knowledge. They were
the parents of Ruth Corinth, Daniel Howard, Harriet Edna, Elmer Emerson,
and Nancy Ann.

Therefore, I am unable to trace back any further than Daniel and do not
know of his parents.

It is my recollection that my father, Vincent Glen, told a story of two
brothers who came from Cardiff, Wales and married two sisters, I believe in
Pa. I believe these two brothers may have been Rhodes'.

Any help or hints on this puzzling missing link would be helpful.

Thank you,
Barbara Vaughan (nee Rhodes)

JOSEPH RHODES (ROADS) and his wife Elizabeth lived in Carteret County, NC
and he bought land there in 1759 and 1766.
He died in 1789 and in his Will he mentions son JOHN RHODES and daughter
Mary Weeks and granddaughter Rebecca who was the wife of Willoughby
MARY RHODES WEEKS was the wife of JABEZ WEEKS SR. They married about
1746 in Onslow County, NC and were the parents of nine children.
I am trying to find JOSEPH RHODES' ancestors and more about his family.
I am a descendant of Mary Rhodes and Jabez Weeks.

This information came from the Hillsboro, KS Genealogy Library:

"COLLEGE HILL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH AND COMMUNITY"

"The College Hill Community was located 3 miles west and 4 miles north
of Tampa, KS. The following history of the College Hill Church and
school appears in VanMeter "Marion County Kansas Past and Present". "The
College Hill Community was settled in the early 1870's by approximately
six or seven families of various religious creeds.
"The first meeting to organize school District #66 was held at the home
of John M. Rhodes, February 14, 1876. Officers elected were: Emmanuel
Kuhn," (my GGGrandfather) "director, Alfred Pray, treasurer, Henry
Rhodes, clerk. A teacher hired, and school was underway in a room
provided in the John M. Rhodes' home that fall. Eva Keyser"
(my GGrandmother) "was paid $12.00 a month to teach.
"Back when the College Hill residents were more numerous, John M.
Rhodes had a plaster milling plant on his farm. (Twn. 17, R. 3, Sec. 3)
Before 1892, the fine powdery gypsum found on his land was used to make
plaster. The mill was built by the Acme Cement Plaster Co., about 1892
or 1893. Mr. Rhodes had a contract to haul the milled product to Tampa
and Elmo, Dillon and Banner City for shipment. According to Grayce
Rhodes Dahlinger most of the plaster was hauled to Tampa. The old road
through the pastures can still be seen. This hauling was laways done by
team and wagon. Twenty or more teams and wagons were used daily, each
making three trips a day, one in the morning and two in the afternoon.
The employees and families lived in what was known as "The Row." The
houses were built side by side by the Adme Cement Company. After the
mill was closed, some of these houses were moved to Tampa and remodeled
for homes and one was used for the Tampa Hotel."
"Close to the land owned by John Rhodes was the Post Office of Kuhn.
The following people are buried in the College Hill Cemetery:

Hi. In my research on Rhodes, I can't get beyond my great
grandfather Christian Rhodes.

Here is my line:
Christian Rhodes, born 9/27/1827, probably in Michigan, d. 4/27/1891.
Married Sophronia R. Butler (daughter of Judah Butler) on 8/9/1857
in Thetford, Genesee County, Michigan.
Their daughter was my grandmother, Lillian Cleora Rhodes,
b. 12/13/1870.
She married William Duncan Askine on 7/30/1889.
They moved from Flint, MI to Lincoln, Nebraska after their marriage.
Lillian and William Askine's daugher, Lucile Lillian Askine,
married William Oliver Warren, and they are my parents

I am looking for information on my ancestor Olivia "Barbara" Rhoades, born October 13, 1816, in Rockingham County, Virginia. She was a member of the United Brethren Church, and married George S. Fulkerson in 1837. She died in 1901 in Coles County, Illinois. According to census reports, her parents were born in Pennsylvania and were of German descent. Does anyone have any information that might point to who her parents were and who/where they descended from? There seems to be no information available on this anywhere, and any helpful hints would be much appreciated!
