        Here is my brief Rhodes/Rhoades line:
Alexander Rhodes (m. to Elizabeth Pettitte sp?) - we believe he was b.
ca 1780's possibly in Orange Co., NC
He and Elizabeth had 6-7 sons. All born in Tennessee. The family
eventually migrated up into Fayette Co., ILL. I come through his son
James Ewing Rhodes b. 21 Mar 1817 in Henderson Co., TN. He married an
Elizabeth Reavis - they had William Madison Rhoades 6 Aug 1846 in
Bingham, Fayette Co., ILL. He married Delia Ann Watson. They had Levi
Madison Rhoades b.13 May 1870 in Ramsey, Fayette Co., ILL. (my
grandfather) and he married Birdie Lawrence. They had Kenneth Louis
Rhoades (my father) b. 12 April 1925 in Springfield, Sangamon Co., ILL
My father still lives in Springfield.


We believe that Alexander's father was William Rhodes (wife's name
Mary). William was b. ca 1750 in Baltimore Co., MD. I believe that we
have found his will in Orange Co., NC where he died ca 1791. His wife's
name was Mary and his children are listed as Hannah, Elizabeth and
Alexander. His father's name was Richard Rhodes and wife Sarah McComas.
None of this has been confirmed yet - but there are too many
similarities in names, etc...not to believe it...

Here is my short profile of my grandfather John Walter Rhodes:
   All information is from relatives that knew him.

He was with his fathers traveling tent, who was the minister and his
sister who played the piano, he, grandfather led the music.

  He met and married my grandmother Nora Salina Hines born 1898 in Texas,
I'm assuming West Texas. His mother was from a Cherokee Reservation in Okla.,
they think, as when my uncle J.D. (John Delton) was about 10 someone came
to the Hines family telling great grandfather that some land had been left
to John Walter Rhodes children. Great-grandfather said that "none of them
were going to have anything to do with any Indian land and to forget it."

  When grandmother died in 1924 grandfather took the three children,
J.D. born 1920 in Roby, Fisher Co., TX. Josie Mae born 1921 Roby (my mother),
Renee' born 1924 in Roby, TX, grandfather took all the children to one of
his relatives home a long days ride from Campsprings, TX. She was an old maid.
She didn't like boys and was quite abusive to uncle J.D. so grandfather picked
them up placed each of them with 3 different Hines relatives. He then left for
somewhere in south Texas, they think, and remarried and possibly had another
child or two then died a few years later with dropsy of the knee.

  This is the whole history as I was told and it was more than my mother knew.

 Eliza (Lizy) Smith Rhodes,  mother of Susan Jane Rhodes was b. Dec 1811 in
NC. Census records suggest an 1804-1808 birth.  Bible records suggessts 1811.
Eliza died Dec 28, 1885 per Bible record.

King David Rhodes was born in Bollinger Co. MO in 1830, his parents being
Peter and Lizy (Smith) Rhodes.  Peter Rhodes was born in NC 1770 and
migrated to MO.

Susan Janes Rhodes m. Jonas A. Puntch July 11, 1858.  Jonas was
b. 11 April, 1838 and died Feb. 22, 1896.

Here is an outline of my Rhodes ancestors:

JOSEPH  RHODES  and his wife  ELIZABETH  lived in Carteret County, NC.
He bought land there in 1759 and 1766.
He died in 1789 and in his Will he mentioned his son  JOHN   and daughter MARY  WEEKS.    
This daughter,  MARY   RHODES  WEEKS, b. 1725,  was the wife of JABEZ  WEEKS, SR
and they were married about 1746 in  Onslow County, NC.
They were the parents of nine children.

I would like to find more information about Joseph and his wife Elizabeth,
their parents, and also any siblings and perhaps their families.

According to Mary's obituary, 2 sisters and 2 brothers both
died before 1944.  Mary and her husband Henry lived in the area
around Johnstown most of their lives.

From what I have been told, this Rhoades family or some of the
